Eles que me disseram que o povo que habita no Brasil é chamado pelo nome Manchineri [o machineri] e o que habita no Peru é chamado de Piro.&#13;
Acontece que quando os invasores europeus chegaram pela primeira vez aqui na América do Sul, mais ou menos no século XVI, naquela época os nossos ancestrais habitavam um rio atualmente conhecido por nome de rio Apurimac, situado no rio Tambo no Peru.  Foi nesse lugar que o meu povo sofreu massacre pela primeira vez com os europeus, espanhois, ameaçando-o com armas de fogo que nem em sonho se conhecia. Aí que o meu povo começou a se espalhar em todos os lugares dos rios e outros vararam na mata a procura de outros rios para que lá pudessem sobreviver sem nenhum conflito e preocupação.&#13;
Antes de terem contato, estes povos, que atualmente são conhecidos com dois nomes diferentes: Manchineri e Piro, chamavam-se Yine, que quer dizer “gente ou pessoa”. Hoje continuamos sendo Yine, e no Peru somos oficialmente conhecidos como Yine..." (p. 33)&#13;
[Tras una investigación que realicé en dos pueblos, uno llamado Bufeo Pozo y otro Miaria, ambos ubicados a orillas del río Urubamba, en Perú, relataré una entrevista que realicé con dos personas.
