Divido el texto en cuatro partes : La primera atañe a la primitiva población de América. Aspectos de sus vidas se prolongan aún entre aborígenes que habitan el llamado "corazón de América". Con el transcurso de miles y miles de años, ingresó una variada inmigración agricultora que pudo establecerse, de la cual todavía quedan representantes en nuestros países. Pero fue otra cultura, ingresada con el desarrollo de la navegación, todavía desde tiempos anteriores a Cristo, la que nos dejó valiosos testimonios de su existencia. De ella nos tan tema los ejemplos musicales. Su herencia alcanza nuestros días con instrumentos desenterrados, y con os toques y los cantos conservados por la tradición oral. Otra parte de este libro concierne a nuestro país - el NOA [Noroeste Argentino] - y ubica culturalmente hasta donde ello es posible, el canto y los instrumentos prehispánicos que permanecieron en uso y cuya ejecución fue oportunamente grabada. Su transcripción y su análisis nos permiten ubicar la posible pertenencia de esta música a determinadas culturas prehispánicas, reconocidas desde el punto de vista antropológico, así como su supervivencia dentro de la tradición oral argentina y latinoamericana. Mi interés en penetrar en este mundo musical arcaico está dado por mi formación como coopositora, que en plena juventud penetró en él, con un afán por hallar los cimientos musicales de nuestro país y del continente, casi siempre pendiente de Europa y de sus maestros. Ganados esos conocimientos -los europeos- nos corresponde como músicos nativos de América Latina, encontrar un camino propio que nos identifique musicalmente como se identifican los otros continentes. Este libro aspira a señalar un camino posible. Y a los músicos jóvenes les toca transitarlo y formar nuevas generaciones de compositores y ejecutantes, y también de luthiers que emprendan la fabricación de excelentes instrumentos musicales, como lo hicieron con los de la orquesta, los europeos. Este conocimiento nos enriquece históricamente y nos da una base invalorable para la continuidad y la recreación musical, popular y académica, con un sentido nacional y latinoamericano, en un país que solamente suele tomar en cuenta los mandatos, las vivencias poscolombinas que surgieron en Europa. América posee una doble población : La autóctona [aborigen y criolla] y la procedente de la inmigración europea, arribada a partir de la Independencia, la cual se acrecentó considerablemente el siglo pasado después de la segunda guerra mundial. Dada mi edad, he vivido el cambio cultural y económico acaecido no sólo en Argentina, sino en toda nuestra América, unido a la disparidad en el sentir de sus gentes.
