Posteriormente, analizamos las nuevas perspectivas, especialmente sobre la continuidad entre Tiwanaku e Inca, que ofrece nuestra propia investigación arqueológica en la zona del lago Titicaca. Por un lado, si bien el estado Tiwanaku probablemente colapsó alrededor del año 1000 d. C., su legado perduró en la iconografía cerámica hasta el siglo XIII d. C. en la zona del lago Titicaca, en el norte de Chile y en el sur de Perú, lo que probablemente indica cierta continuidad ideológica. Por otro lado, si bien la cronología tradicional de la expansión incaica, establecida por John H. Rowe, plantea una expansión muy tardía hacia el sur del imperio (es decir, posterior a 1471 d. C.), la creciente evidencia de radiocarbono (y termoluminiscencia) indica firmemente que la cerámica y la arquitectura de estilo incaico ya estaban presentes en la zona del lago Titicaca en el siglo XIV d. C. Aunque sin duda se produjeron muchos cambios, especialmente entre 1250 y 1350 d. C., se puede establecer una continuidad iconográfica e ideológica, así como una trayectoria de desarrollos arquitectónicos similares, desde Tiwanaku hasta los incas en la zona del lago Titicaca (y probablemente también en el sur de Perú, el norte de Chile y el noroeste de Argentina).
