                <text>Referencia comentada al trabajo pionero  de María Rostworowski sobre este señorío, "Mercaderes del valle de Chincha en la época prehispánica : Un documento y unos comentarios" [1970] : "Lo que Rostworowski ha puesto en evidencia es la existencia en Chincha, en época prehispánica, de mercaderes cuyo radio de acción se extendía desde al altiplano del Titicaca hasta la bahía de Manta [Ecuador] al norte...".   Señorío basado en tres estamentos bien definidos : Agricultores, pescadores, mercaderes.  Estos mercaderes realizaban comercio vía marítima, siendo el mullu [concha del molusco Spondylus] de los andes septentrionales,  el principal  bien que intercambiaban.  Sus grandes flotillas de balsas iban cargadas  de metales, finos textiles de algodón, pescado seco, mates, entre otros productos para intercambiarlas con  las preciadas conchas.&#13;
Se pone énfasis en la hipótesis de que los  recursos marinos que los chincha explotaron a gran escala, no solo fueron especies marinas  sino  el guano de la islas, y que mediante su comercio marítimo a lo largo del Pacífico,  y vía caravanas llameras hacia el interior de los Andes, fue fuente de gran riqueza.  El boom guanero del siglo XIX no fue por tanto, la primera experiencia de bonanza comercial en la costa peruana. </text>
