Qhichwa simi se oponía a hawa simi o "lengua de arriba/de afuera" que designaba a los idiomas locales practicados por la población asentada desde la época anterior en zonas más altas. Esta oposición semántica revela el papel central del quechua "de los valles" en el sistema de comunicación inca.</text>
