                <text>"Desde que los españoles llegaron a la región andina se dieron procesos de traducción entre el castellano y las lenguas indígenas, particularmente el quechua y el aimara1. Esta traducción resultó ser no solamente una experiencia lingüística sino también un proceso de transformación cultural y conceptual. En particular, las nuevas condiciones de vida de cada grupo produjeron cambios radicales en la manera de pensar la identidad, por la necesidad de redefinirse a sí mismo por referencia a un "otro" cultural y lingüísticamente ajeno.&#13;
En este ensayo enfocaré el testimonio de vida de un quechua hablante de la sierra peruana en el cual predomina el tema de la identidad. Para el quechua hablante del sur andino de fines del siglo veinte, la identidad es un fenómeno muy complejo. Esta complejidad se manifiesta en el texto original mediante los términos utilizados en quechua para referirse a las categorías socioculturales, las cuales se prestan a lecturas alternativas según la posición social ya sea del hablante o del referente. La traducción de estos términos a las lenguas europeas es un reto para el traductor, por estar  arraigados en una realidad social y cultural particular, donde múltiples identidades se expresan y a veces se enfrentan entre sí..."</text>
